From Travel-Around-Japan: Mount Usu ("Usuzan" in
Japanese) is a 737-meters-high
active volcano, and is located only 3 km south-southeast of the hot
spring resort of Lake Toya.
It is one of most active volcanoes in Japan, then it erupted four times
within last 100 years (in 1910, 1944, 1977 and 2000).
You can go up to the top of the mountain with a ropeway, which is on
the east slope.

How to get to here
By route
bus:
About 15 minutes from "Toya-ko Onsen" (the hot spring resort of Lake
Toya) to "Showa-shinzan".
We can get the ropeway there.
By car:
On the expressway, about 133 km
from Sapporo to Date Exit. It takes about 1 hour and 30 minutes.
Then about 10 km to Showa-shinzan.

Following from my post on Kitanogurume - Sapporo Central Wholesale Market here, I have my satisfying lunch here: - fresh grilled king crabbies and scallop! Listen dee also saliva drip....slurpp..so dun envy ya when read this post! The restaurant is just directly above the market, so you get to eat all the fresh seafood from the market below directly!

If you refer my Hokkaido itinerary here, you will noticed that the whole trip we did not try any ramen at all. So, the boyfie insisted that he must have at least one hokkaido ramen before we leave here. So right before we board the plane to go back, we had Gantetsu Hokkaido Ramen for our lunch in Rera Chitose Outlet Mall. In this factory outlet, there are tons of ramen restaurant..so we just pick the ones with the most lost queue that time. Since most ppl queue one, should taste good rite?

Wave! wave! Have you ever seen a bear standing up and waving at you? Well, you can definitely see them here in Showa-shinzan Bear Ranch.

These big Hokkaido brown bears called "Higuma" in Japanese is one of the dangerous bears in Hokkaido, where hikers may encountered them in the mountains. The higuma are part of the ursus arctos horribilis, known as grizzly
bears in North America. They are over 2 meters tall, weigh about 300 kg
and can run at a speed of 50 kph.

Before you enter into the ranch, there is ppl selling bags of biscuits for JPY100 (~MYR3) and apples for JPY200 (~MYR6) which you can used to attract the bears and feed them. They'll wave at you, begging you to throw them foodies.

According to our tour guide, there are about 100 bears being bred here. There is a section on the other side where there are younger bears too.
After visiting the ranch, you can have a visit to the souvenir shop. Here, you can buy the bear oil, which
is used for dry skin as well as treating small sores. However, the famous cream in Hokkaido is the horse oil cream tho. Too bad I forgot to take video that time, so here's a video I found online on the waving bears in Showa-shinzan bear ranch:

Yesterday was Three Little Pigs breakfast and today is Three Little Birds Coffee! Hmm, why always three little ah? Odd rite? Anyway, if you luv to go Desa ParkCity for a weekend stroll with your doggies..I bet you sure have noticed the steamboat have move out from the corner spot and it's now replaced with a lovely coffee lover aka addict place now which is known as Three Little Birds Coffee!
